Healthy Coconut Oil

In a world of increasing health risks, many have been striving to make changes in their daily lives to make healthier choices. However, we also live lives that are crazy busy, so the changes we seek are the ones that are quick, easy and have the potential to stay continuous. Fun fact: gym memberships skyrocket around the first of January, but the crowds are significantly fewer just a couple months later. Good intentions and new year’s resolutions, unfortunately, have no power over the number of hours in the day or how much energy you have in your free time. After a day of work, the lure of a cozy bed or a break with that movie you’ve been dying to see outweigh the fact you swore to work out three times a week. So, many ask themselves what they could do to modify in a manageable way. Believe it or not, there is a simple way to do this at any hour of the day, and the answer may surprise you. Let’s talk about how healthy coconut oil is.

Coconut oil contains a component called lauric acid. By the name, you’d probably assume it would be some sort of acid, right? It’s actually a lipid and one of the healthier saturated fats. Basically, the way this is made up, it’s one of the few things our bodies can absorb whole and all at once. This, in turn, allows them to be easily digested, like a carb, and then turned straight into energy. In addition, lauric acid also contains something called monolaurin, which has been linked to aiding the body in fighting viruses like the common cold, the flu and yeast infections. It has also been said to contribute to a healthier cardiovascular system, lower blood pressure and weight loss, due to being converted into energy right away.

Coconut Oil Health Inside and Out

There are also coconut oil health benefits for your skin and hair, as it is a natural moisturizer. It doesn’t matter if you eat it or apply it like a lotion or conditioner – either way does the trick. For hair, though, you reverse the process. First the coconut oil, then shampoo. It also works better if you put it in your hair about an hour before you shower. As if this weren’t good enough, our friend lauric acid has also been said to help keep acne at bay.

These are just a couple of ways that coconut oil can help you become a healthier, happier you. Of course, that resolution to get to the gym is still probably a good idea, but think of it this way: with all that extra energy this oil provides, you might just find yourself wanting to go.
